How do I get started building my family group tree from Family Search?
Probably I'm too stupid to do this. I'm on my 5th attempt to construct my tree, without success. It takes an entire day (8 am to 2 am this last try) to add a small part of my tree from Family Search. If I don't save it via the copy feature that's supposed to be in the upper right corner - which I have never been able to find - when Family Search forces me to sign in again, I'm back to zero, the whole day's work is wiped out.

Are you working on a computer or possibly using a phone?
I'm working on a PC, using Windows 10, and Chrome, both fully updated. Copy to Group is in a blue bar at the top right.
To select the people, first click the Spouses and Children button underneath the topmost (earliest) couple you want to include. Then click on Copy to Group.
Hope this helps.

@cheryldiannebraunsteintolman1 I am so sorry that this has been so difficult for you. We really want it to be intuitive. It should be a fairly quick process to add living people from your Person List in your FamilySearch Tree; only a few minutes. Can you post screenshots of the steps you are taking to add your family members? Perhaps, I can see where the trouble is.
As Aine showed, above, once you have selected the living people that you want to copy into your Family Group Tree, you must click on the blue COPY TO GROUP button to actually copy them over into your Family Group Tree. Remember that it will only copy LIVING Profiles. The system will automatically link the new Family Group Tree profiles to any deceased ancestors that your living profiles are currently connected to.
You can work in pieces and re-enter the Copy From FamilySearch Tree process as many times as you need to copy different parts of your tree.
