The livestock registers (Boskapslängder) were are predecessor of the mantalslängder. It was initially planned to be a special tax for 2 years but they continued collecting it until 1641. The tax was based upon livestock and grain (not people, their homes, or land). Tax obligation was upon independently owned farms, government owned farms, and farms that were leased from either. The nobility, or farmers who leased farms from nobility paid half the amount. Poor people were exempt. The record was created by the pastor, local sheriff, and parish patrolmen. They will establish a time an place for a farmer. The records are available through Riksarkivet at: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/amnesomrade?postid=Arkis+A0974854-9AB7-11D5-A700-0002440207BB&infosida=amnesomrade-skatter&flik=1

I am looking for Halland county and it appears that the files are by harad. The Harad for my parish (Hishult) is Hök and it doesn't appear in Rikarkivet. Am I readying right? It is understandable that the records are not complete.

Between 1620 and 1641 when the Boskapslängder were created, Halland belonged to Denmark. Halland was under Swedish control after the treaty of Brömsebro in 1645.
