PORTRAIT (BETA) tree view: expanding children's families can "blend" families
Blending families
In the beta portrait view, the families of several of the children of the focus couple can be displayed concurrently. Usually, this results in the children with different parents being moved to one side or the other so the families don't collide or overlap. However, this doesn't always work properly. As an example, if I look at the tree for Alice Berry (L13S-Z93) and James Crankshaw (L13S-9GR), and expand the families of their children John James (L7WY-JCP) and Nancy (LXW8-CJL), the grandchildren appear in their separate families. If I then expand the children of Susanna (KK9M-WXW, no "h") her children are displayed in a family, but John's and Nancy's families are now blended into a single family with two sets of parents. However, if I then expand the family of Alice (K2FF-KVT), her children are blended with those of Susanna. If I then expand the children of Ellen (LBYW-R9B), Susanna's and Alice's families are magically reconstituted into their correct structure, but James's and Nancy's children remain in the first "blended" family.
This is the situation today (21 May 2024). When I first noticed the problem on 17 May, the behaviour was slightly different as to which combinations of expanded families resulted blending. It was reproducible at that time.
The problem can be compounded on a grander scale by expanding further generations of children.
Order of display of children
In the BETA portrait view, the youngest children are displayed on the left. In the current view, and in most pedigree views that I have seen outside of FS, the oldest children are displayed on the left.
Slight horizontal misalignment of children who have no visible children or partner
If a child has no visible children or partner, there seems to be a displacement and/or scaling problem. This results in a small kink in the vertical line which connects the parents and the child. This can be seen in the grandchildren of Charles Edward Passmore (G46X-FHF) and Violet Geraldine Bradley (LBYW-JNT).

It looks like this bug has been reported multiple times, and nothing has been done about it (it's even incorrectly marked as "fixed" in the history). Many potential solutions have been suggested, but nothing has changed. PLEASE look into this!

Our engineers have updated changes on July 1. Let us know if this issue has been resolved for you.

Nope lol. It seems to be doing exactly the same thing.
Would it be worth adding screenshots of what's happening?

Yes, that would be most helpful. Currently, the functionality to upload images to the Community Platform is
unavailable due to technical issues. However, we've devised a temporary workaround until our engineers can rectify this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding. Please go to this link for the instructions on how to upload images. Thank you!

@LTG50 Here's a link to a screenshot. It was taken a month or two ago, but it still does the exact same thing as then.

The "blending" has been fixed for the example that I reported, the tree for Alice Berry (L13S-Z93) and James Crankshaw (L13S-9GR). The order of display of the children has also been fixed.
Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to know these issues have been fixed.

@Carter J Parker when you and Julian Brown first reported this issue, I was able to recreate it and see the blending of the children. The issue no longer occurs for me and Julian Brown said it has also been fixed.
I know that the lines are faint and hard to follow. Are you still seeing the blending?

Yeah, unfortunately it's still doing the EXACT same thing as it does in the screenshot. The screenshot is of living profiles, but here are instructions to recreate it on a deceased profile:
- View the tree of any profile (for example, try Alma Wilford Zbinden,
KWZD-127
). - Open that profile's siblings (to the left)
- Open the siblings of the father (also to the left)
- Open the children of any of the father's siblings
- You should be seeing the first profile's siblings and some cousins.
- The cousins will be placed in between the original profile and the siblings (as seen in the screenshot), making it nearly impossible to differentiate between families.
Let me know if you aren't able to recreate it. I can't seem to find a situation it doesn't happen in lol. Hopefully it's not something specific to only my account…

Thank you, I was able to recreate it and it is on the schedule to be reviewed. Please keep an eye on the Known Issues under the Announcements on the Group Page for updates.

Thank you for your patience. There has been some improvement but this is the best they can do for now. Please have a look and see if you can notice any difference.
