Detailed maps of Posen area (Szamotuly & Oborniki)
Hello,
My relatives went from small town to small town looking for work over the mid/late 1800s, specifically around Szamotuly (Samter) and Oborniki. Does anyone have a link to a detailed map of these areas, or a list of towns and their respective parishes? For example, one of the family members was born in Maniewo, the next in Lulin, etc. I'm trying to figure out what towns go with what parishes so I am looking in the right place.
thank you!
Leslie

Leslie, you may benefit from using meyersgaz.com and entering Samter. You will have 2 places named Samter, click on map to see neighboring communities and click on Ecclesiastical in the heading to see nearby parishes. You may also use kartenmeister.com to type Polish communities and to find German equivalents, including parishes. Pilot.pl or mapa.szukacz.pl could be helpful as you - download the map - X the advertisements - click on Ukryj next to hotele to eliminate all Hs which are hotel advertisements, then entering in Polish the names of any community (Polish letters not required), selecting your community, clicking on it on the map, and moving mouse without pressing on it to another community, to see in the right lower corner in the red box the distance in kilometers, dividing by 3 and multiplying by 2 will give you distance in miles. You may also use Poznan Project for indexed marriages, and Basia.famula.pl or Basia Project on homepage of Poznan Project, to search for individuals. Use Advanced Search to search for individuals. Please try also Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl to search for surnames in entire Poland, specifically in "wielkopolskie" around Poznan or kujawsko-pomorskie region, as your ancestors might have moved there also. Enjoy your research

Thank you so much! I have been on Poznan Project and Basia. I found quite a few Samter records that can only be accessed at an affiliate library, so I plan on going there. Cheers!
