Andrzej Powroz - follow up questions
Thank you again for your help with the previous translation Maria!
This is the “bio” and background of Andrzej Powroz that I’ve been able to gather from vital records:
-Andrzej Powroz was likely born around 1801, in Lithuania. [ref 1, Marriage of A. Powroz and J. Kapcinska].
-As of February 1825 Andrzej was a soldier in the Army of Congress Poland, 4th Mounted Rifle Regiment 1st squadron. [ref 1, Marriage of A. Powroz and J. Kapcinska].
-By November of that same year he was reassigned to the 2nd Mounted Rifle Regiment and was stationed in Piotrkow Trybunalski. Interestingly, his wife was traveling with him during deployment. [ref 2, Birth of Marianna Powrzyc] .
-By 1834, Andrzej had become a blacksmith [ref 3, Birth of Marianna Powroz].
So my questions are:
1 – Are there any accessible Polish archives of military records for this time period? It’d great to find Andrzej’s rank among other details of his service.
2 - Is there any way to find out if he participated in the November uprising of 1830?
3 - How would a Lithuanian end up in the Polish Army?
4 - How did a man become a soldier? I would assume that men were conscripted, however it is very rare to see “soldier” listed as an occupation on vital records.
I know I'm asking a lot. Any insights would be fantastic
Best regards,
Mike

1. I do not know if there are any military records for that period of time in that area. You may contact the state archives or search for them yourself in szukajwarchiwach where if those records are listed, you will get a message “brak skanu” indicating that they may be in possession of the archives.
2. It is very doubtful if you could find out if he participated in the November uprising of 1830. Recording his participation in the uprising could lead to his imprisonment. But you may ask about it as you contact the archives. You may try the following email for wielkopolskie search for Szadek: archiwum@poznan.ap.gov.pl
3. At that time Andrzej Powroz could associate with Polish people, his name is Polish, even if Lithuania, and the area where he lived was under Russian rule.
4. As to his conscription, you may ask the archives about it.
5. Sorry, I do not think I can help you more with those questions.
