Gossau ZH - Census - 1640 - Waeber - relationships
At the URL below is an image from the 1640 Gossau Parish Census that contains information on the Heinrich Waeber household who are living in the hamlet of Herschmettlen. The household consists of mixed types of relationships. In the record, my ancestor, Anna Waeber (age 7), and her brother, Heinrich (age 14), are not the children of this Heinrich Waeber or his daughter Magdala Waeber. I believe their relationship to Heinrich is given as "????? agnati". I understand that agnati is Latin for "blood relatives in the male line." But I cannot read the word in front of agnati. It is also used further down in the record after "soror" (sister). Can someone please read and translate that word for me? It will help me understand the relationships in this household. Thank you.

Well - a rather complicated family 😉 … and I am not at all confident with the following! Just consider it as a suggested starting point for further discussion.
So we have the widower Heinrich Wäber and (I assume his) widowed daughter Madale (Magdalena) Wäberi. I assume the two children "16 Hans Heinrich Hüsser(?)" and "10 Jacob" belong to her - so she would have been married to a man Hüsser(?) - but there is no suitable marriage listed in the Zürich Marriage Register (https://www.archives-quickaccess.ch/search/stazh/edb) and I don't find any mention of this name at all.
Then I read "huius agnati" - would these be Heinrich Wäber's grandchildren via a son? "14 Heinrich Wäber" and "7 Anna" - what does the "Vreal" mean? There are words in a similar position (other households) which I read "Decal" … is it the same with a somewhat different D?
Then we have "Cathri Kägi eius filia [vidua]" with her sister Elsbeth Kägi - but who's the father? … not Heinrich Wäber. Cathri has an illegitimate daughter 1½ Adelheit.
What is the meaning of the numbers after most names? There doesn't seen to be any relation the children's ages.
There are also "Bürgerregister" for Gossau from 1634, 1637, 1643, …: have you checked these yet? They could help to sort out the relations.

Thank you very much Wolf! You’ve given me some good information to pursue. I have looked at those other records and they help, but don’t give me some of the answers I’m looking for. But what you have told me may point me in the right direction. By the way, this Anna is the same one you told me in a previous discussion that her marriage record said she was from the Herschmettlen hamlet in the Gossau parish.

In this case I recommend you post the screenshots and your questions on https://www.geneal-forum.com/: two members there have a lot of experience with canton Zürich "Bevölkerungsverzeichnisse".
