Social history question for Denmark
in 1840s, a child shows up as a foster child living with grandparents. This was the 2nd child in a family that later included 6 kids. She was the oldest daughter. Parents later named a younger child the same name as the first daughter. First child grew up and married. Grandparents had older teenagers living with them when this 10 year old came to live with them. I’ve never seen anything like this before in all my research. Is there some Danish custom that might explain this?

There's not one Danish custom that would explain this but often foster children are related to the family that raises them and sometimes two living children would have the same name.

This is just a weird one I guess. thank you. :-)

The child could also have had both paternal and maternal ancestors with the same name and therefore named two children the same name. I have a Norwegian family with two sons named the same name.
