What is a Centhknecht?
One of my ancestors is listed in the Stockstadt am Rhein Familienbuch as:
"Johann Wilhelm Pfeffer, Centhknecht d. Oberamts Dornberg"
The time period is the late 1600s. Location is Hesse. I'm assuming the occupation has something to do with working for the tax office of the Dornberg district but I can't seem to find any definition or description of the occupation.

Could it be Zehntknecht? This was "the official appointed by the tithe lord to collect the tenth, i.e. to count the sheaves in the field of the tithe payer without hindrance from the landlord" https://www.dwds.de/wb/dwb/zehntknecht

That might be it. I will have to get a copy of the actual records. It looks like the Stockstadt films are only viewable in person in Salt Lake City so I will give the lookup service a try. If that doesn't work I'll need to plan a future road trip. It's only 900 miles away. :)
