LisaKeyser1, Since you have a name that you believe is your bio father's name, have you tried a search for your father's name in one of the sites to find information on living people? Try using FamilyTreeNow.com and search for the names that you know. You can estimate his age with knowing that he was old enough to serve in the army.
If you don't find him listed there, please reach out again and we will give you some additional suggestions.
Doing a DNA test is definitely useful and we have volunteers on this site to help you work with your results. Please reach out and continue to ask for help. We have been successful finding quite a few missing family members.
If anyone wants their situation looked at, please comment about your story again and let's try to see what we can find out. I know that some stories get buried in the feed and it is helpful if you start a new post and talk about your story again.

Yes ... as others have said, if you haven't DNA tested, this is something you should do. Your father may not have tested but some of his close relatives may have. Ancestry is a good place to start.
Also, make sure you gather as much information as you can about him e.g., from you non-ID info if you have been able to get it ... was he mentioned in there? What do you know about time and place - that is, where would he have been when you were born, is he associsted with a particular line of work? approx. how old etc. etc.

@Lisa Keyser what year were you born and what state? I’m not familiar with fort ord where is that? Do you know which states your father may have lived in? Do you know any of his relatives names? There are several ways to search for living people and I can try to help you, but I’d like to gather more info if possible in order to help me narrow down my search. You can post your info here or you can send me a private message if you prefer 😊
however, I would like to add that finding birth parents isn’t always a joyous experience, perhaps there’s a good reason the info was being kept from you.
