Translation and/or transliteration of confusing (to me!) birth record
I would greatly appreciate help in deciphering and/or translating the birth record of my 9th generation (I hope!) ancestor. Unfortunately it is not very clear but I hope someone can read more of it than I can. Thanks for any attempts.

Hello @RayLudenia1,
Here is what I am able to decipher and perhaps others can provide additional information:
Place: Olber.
Child: Elisabeth Maria.
Father: ______________?
Mother: Elsa Sch_____?
Baptismal sponsors: Gert Steineken and Maria Eck___?
Date: 14 Sep [1666].
Question: As this is perhaps your ancestor, what are your thoughts on what her surname should be?

This is how I read it:
child: Elisabetha Maria
father: Str(possibly äu)ss
mother: Schetten

The Fathers forename might be "Lippeß".

Thanks for these helpful replies. It appears her name is Maria Elisabeth, father Lipps Steins and mother Elsa Schetten. The problem has been that their four other children went by the surname of Steins, but the middle child Maria Elisabeth is listed as Schetten in both her marriage record and death record. Because of the helpful replies deciphering the messy birth record, I am now fairly sure I have the lineage correct. Any reasons why she may have used mother’s surname instead of father’s?

You're welcome, Ray.
Please note the following: The child in this record is named Elisabeth Maria not "Maria Elisabeth" as you indicated in your response.

Thanks for your help Robert. She is referred to as just Maria Schetten on her marriage and death records.
