Your transcription is quite correct; some small corrections:
1719
54) Mercurii 30ten Aug:
Henrich Schepers zu Vabbenst. eines Musquetiers und s. Fr. eheliches Kind. Sind freÿ. Gevatter ist der alte Länge, Henrich, s. Vatter/Vetter?
Nomen Johan Ernst +
Translation:
1719
54) Wednesday, 30th August:
Legitimate child of the musketeer Henrich Scheper(s) and his wife. Are free(?). Sponsor is the old Henrich Länge, his father/cousin.
Name: Johan Ernst <died>
Comment: I am not sure what the sentence "Sind frey" refers to. Since the sponsor has a different surname it seems more probable that he is a cousin (Vetter) than the father (although the letter does look more like an "a") .

Thank you so much. Your translation gives me some possibilities. I'll have to look up and see what a "musketeer" (I assume in the army?) did!

Hello Jenny,
Here is the link to a Wikipedia article about musketeers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musketeer

Thank you Robert -- this should make it so much more interesting for my grandsons!

You're welcome, Jenny. I think most people think of musketeers as sword fighters (because of the movies) and while they did carry swords they were so named because of their muskets.
