Heritage trip ideas needed
I am a second generation American in that all my grandparents, except my German branch, were born in other countries. I have a quest to walk the streets of the towns where my ancestors lived and maybe even see their houses.
After I successfully explored the birth towns of my Irish and Italian branches of my family tree and found my cousins there, I am now exploring my German branch.
My daughter, my brother and I have scheduled a trip to the towns of my great-grandparents. I leave NY on June 26 and will be staying in Germany until July3 of this year.
My Schmitt family comes from Hainstadt, Amt Buchen, Main- und Tauberkreis, Grand Duchy of Baden, German Empire, but that is as close as I can get to their pre-immigration location.
The same is true for my Schappacher family from Seebach, Achern, Ortenaukreis, Baden-Württemberg.
I hope to find the village, street and home of my family.
In any case, we will be in the towns later this month.
I have found that Seebach is in the region of the Black Forest and there is much to see and do once I visit the town.
I have not found a lot to see and do near Hainstadt. That is the focus of my research right now.
Any ald all sugestions, ideas, recommendations would be so very helpful.
Thanks,
Margie

Here's a link for tourist information in Seebach. (Use Google Translate.) At the bottom of the page, there's a contact number and email. Perhaps they can help you further. https://www.achertal.de/
Same thing here for Buchen - https://www.buchen.de/tourismus.html

Hi,
There is also a website for a "Heimatverein" (a club devoted to local traditions) of Hainstadt. The website is not very big and I have no idea how active they are. But I think it might be worthwhile to contact them. Maybe somebody would be able to show you the village and the church and to let you know something about their history.
