1865 Marriage in Chicago
I just found this document tucked away in an old scrapbook. This is the marriage of my great grandparents: the date, 9 Aug 1865, is also in the family bible, but this is the first "evidence" to back up that date. Please translate what is handwritten. And does anyone know if the church still exists and where its records (baptisms?) might be found? Anything else of interest?

Christine--This was a great find and it may lead me to baptism records for their 8 children if any records of the First German United Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Church survive. THANK YOU for the translation!--Gary

On the upper left of this page in the Chicago 1863 directory is the address of St Paul's church, the Pastor's name seems to match.

Maybe the address will help you track down church records?
I also noticed a Frederick Knecht in the directory, maybe yours?

Gustave shows up in the 1866 directory

@JohnsonGreg -- Thanks.
I looked at those directories and have already emailed the church where Joseph Hartmann was pastor from 1851 to 1886. He probably baptized all 8 children born in Chicago.
I also noticed Frederick Knecht, but don't think he's a relative. However Gustav Knecht (1834-1891) was my great grandfather, born in Solingen, married in Chicago, and died in Los Angeles
