Alswede (and other PRs) linking families together
Researching my 3 families in Alswede, Germany between 1650 and 1799, I am hoping that you can direct me to some sources or research techniques that will help me link a child baptized to and marriage record.
For instance, I have a Joh. Christopher Scheper md to Clare Agnese Munstermans 14 Oct 1743 in Alswede. I also have (so far) in my RootsMagic a
1) Joh. Christopher Scheper or Christians bap 23 Jun 1721 in Alswede (from Hollwinkel)
2) Joh. Christ. Scheper bap 30 Sep 1722 in Alswede (from Vehlage)
The only way that I could think of to select the correct one, if either is correct, is to find a burial record for him that says he's from Hollwinkel or Vehlage. Even that doesn't seem enough, is it?
Could also look for a burial of his wife and see what location she is from.
I've heard of "family books", could you suggest where I might find these for this area?
Thank you so much for your help!
Jenny

With regard to the two Johann Christians, you would have to track them through all the possible registers. For example, look at the marriage record and see if it names parents or occupation or town of origin; look also for a remarriage later on that might have more information than the original record. Look at all the birth records for this couple to see if they mention occupation or location. See also if there are common godparents listed each time and whether they share an occupation, relation, or location. Look at death records for any of those possible children to glean whatever information you can. The death record for Joh. Christian may list his age in years, months, days, so that will help you tie back to the birth records you already have. If one is always listed with an occupation, and the other is listed as "from here," for example, they are probably two different people.
As far as family registers are concerned, they are a wonderful tool if they exist in your area of research. Neither the FamilySearch catalog nor Archion shows such a register for Alswede, You can read more about family registers here, but will have to use Google Translate - https://www.leo-bw.de/en/themenmodul/sudwestdeutsche-archivalienkunde/archivaliengattungen/register/familienregister.
