Need Danish Baptism Record translated and compared to marriage record.
In searching for Hans Nielsen and Maren Hansdatter, there appears to be two couples with these names in Fejø, Fuglse, Maribo, Denmark that I'm trying to sort out! A daughter, Dorthe Chatarine Hansdatter, LH2B-MYT, was baptized 1 May 1808 and born 17 February 1808 in that place. What is the word before the name of Hans Nielsen Kuld? Is it a farm name? I need to know where she was born! It mentions his WIFE, Maren Hansdatter as the mother. Can you translate whatever comes after the mother's name that may be helpful? (image 217)
I think I found their marriage record three years later but the groom is no longer using the Kuld name. Hans Nielsen is of Blands and Maren Hansdatter is of (?). They were married in Stokkemarke where she was born. I need help reading the rest of the record. Maren Hansdatter (MNFB-11 is usually from Vesterby; see 1834 census attached to her) Do you think this is their marriage? There are a number of possible duplicates shown.
Marriage #6 in 1811: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-XQZN?i=232
Thank you for your help. This is very confusing!

Hi Kristin.
It was certainly possible to bring this line of the family pretty far back in time.
If you have any question just ask them in this thread...
Unfortunately the origins of Claus Olufsen "Nau" cannot be determined. Only real possibility would be a "Fæstebrev" [letter of renting land], where it is sometimes stated where the person is born.
Sadly it doesn't seem these "Fæstebreve" are preserved for Skeby (around 1681) or Uggerslev (around 1693).
Cheers

Hi Joellen.
You are thinking about the family information in the probate of Claus Nau ? - the essential information has already been transcribed:
Probate after Claus Nau:
Gift 2. gang med Catharina Thomesdatter, laugværge hendes bror Niels Thomasen, Norup [so his second wife had a brother Niels Thomasen in Norup]
Børn:
Thomas Clausen, 21 år
Chresten Clausen, 17 år
Anne Clausdatter
Gift 1. gang med Anne Mortensdatter (name not mentioned in the probate itself)
Børn:
Hans Clausen, bor i Ørslev
Johan Clausen, 25 år
Dorthe Clausdatter, gift med Anders Christophersen, Østrup
Mette Clausdatter, gift med rytter på Sjælland [married a cavalryman on Sjælland under Hr. Oberst Liøÿenhelms [= Løwenhelm?] Regiment]
Rebetze Clausdatter, 26 år tjener svoger i Østrup [serves with a family member in Østrup]
Margrethe Clausdatter, gift med Hans Sørensen, Østrup (nævnes som til stede)
Uddrag ved Anne M

In 1710 Hans Brockenhuus-Løwenhielm became Oberst and leader of the 1st Sjællandske Rytter Regiment from 1710-1716 [and the probate of Claus Nau is from 1715].
Source: https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Brockenhuus-L%C3%B8wenhielm
So the unnamed husband of Mette Clausdatter must have been a cavalryman in this regiment and survived fighting the battles of Helsingborg (1710) and Gadebusch (1712), where Oberst Brockenhuus-Løwenhielm and the regiment was fighting, since he is not mentioned as dead in the probate.

Niels,
You wrote: Final proof that rytter Claus Nau is the father of Thomas Clausen (1694-1747) in Roerslev and he is the father of Claus Thomasen (1723-1800) in Roerslev!!

Skifteprotokol for Gyldensteen (1721-1763):

Børn af forrige ægteskab [children of the former marriage - with Claus Nau]

So Catharina Thomadatter died in 1749, her son (with Claus Nau) Thomas Clausen died 1747 in Roerslev, but his son Claus Thomasen living in Roerslev can inherit. [This gives us total proof]
It sounds like after Claus Nau died, his wife, Catharina Thomasdatter, married Knud Nielsen. Is that right?

NB: So this is the burial of the former wife of Claus "Nau". Hard to see what the age is.....
It sounds like Claus Nau was married before Catharina Thomasdatter, but we don't know her name. Is that correct?

The name of the first wife of Claus Nau is sadly no recorded in the church book and I can't discern what her age says: 40, 70 ?
Catharina Thomasdatter has a probate in 17. November 1749. Here is an already made transcription.
Gift 1. gang med Claus Nau
Børn:
Christen Clausen, Uggerslev
Thomas Clausen (død), Roerslev:
Claus Thomasen, Roerslev (værge for sine søskende) [guardian for his siblings]
Hans Thomasen, 22 år
Anders Thomasen, 20 år

[His wife should have been from Landet Sogn and a widow, but without any papers [Skudsmålsbog] and they had arrived on Fejø unmarried with her being pregnant and he admitting to being the father, but now they wanted to be married in Fejø. Nils, you have gone to so much work! Wow! I'm helping my friend. We know her direct ancestors are Anne Hansdatter
Female1787–1842 •MNF1-MMP
Who married Claus Thamasen
Male1781–Deceased •27XC-YVH
Marriage
27 February 1813Stokkemarke, Maribo, Storstrøm, Denmark
The ancestor we are researching is Anne Hansdatter’s sister: Maren Hansen
Female1782–1839 •MNFB-11X
1787 Census:
Hans Jørgen Eriksen Gender Male Age 33 County Maribo Hundred Lollands Sønder Parish Stokkemarke Placename Kiellernæs Bye (his)2nd Marriage 460 Kirstine Christophersdatter Female 29 1758 Married Kone – (her) 1st marriage
461 Maren Hansdatter Female 5 1782 Single Barn af sidste Ægteskab (child of last marriage)
462 Magrethe Hansdatter Female 2 1785 Single Barn af sidste Ægteskab (child of last marriage)
463 Anne Hansdatter Female 1 1786 Single Barn af sidste Ægteskab (child of last marriage)
We want to be sure we are attaching the right Hans Nielsen as the husband of Maren Hansdatter. Here is the marriage we found: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-XQZN which is 1811 in Stokkemarke! The groom was residing on the farm of Blands. Is this Hans Nielsen also known as Hans Nielsen Kuld, and did they move to Fejo or stay in Stokkemarke? There are other Hans Nielsens married to Maren Hansdatters! If I know this one is known as Kuld (Buried 7 Dec. 1818, the Gaardmand in Vesterby, Hans Kuld, age 33 years. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/sogn723/churchbook/source141042/opslag15611231), then I can be sure of the following: Entry #1 in 1819
Widower Rasmus Rasmussen married the widow of Hans Kuld, Maren Hansdatter of Vesterby (farm name) on 5 March 1819 in Fejö Parish. https://ao.sa.dk/ao/data.ashx?bid=24700430
Can you confirm the Maren Hansdatter born 1782 in Stokkemarke married Hans Nielsen Kuld or was it another Hans Nielsen?
Many, many thanks and blessings to you for all of your work on this!
Just so you know, I only speak English but use google translate to help me with the Danish!

The probate of Maren Hansdatter's father is a huge find! I never would have found that!

Hi Joellen.
Fejø Sogn kirkebog:
"Onsdagen den 29de April [1807] blev ungkarl Hans Nielsen fra Høismarke i Lolland og Maren Hansdatter viede.
Forlovere vare Niels Hansen fra Høismarke [father of Hans Nielsen] og Hans Jørgen Eriksen i Østerbye [father of Maren Hansdatter].
Source (page 205 left): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17114665#149352,24700288
As the marriage of Hans Nielsen [Kuld] and Maren Hansdatter lists the grooms/best men as Niels Hansen of Højsmarke [Niels Hansen Kuld] & Hans Jørgen Erichsen of Østerby it must be the correct marriage (of the Maren Hansdatter born in Stokkemarke, where Hans Jørgen Erichsen still was located in the census of 1787).
Later in 1819 Maren Hansdatter marries Rasmus Rasmussen Colding/Kolling [must be named after the town Kolding] with certainty; as she is stated to be the widow of "Hans Kuld".

Thank you! Thank you! What more can I say when you have gone to so much work? I'm anxious to review your findings on Claus Thomasen, husband of Anne Hansdatter! If you can only find two with that name in Maribo and have ruled out one, that is awesome!
I can't say enough about how helpful the probates are. We wouldn't have found them without you!
Thanks so much, Nils!

Hi Joellen.
Thomas Clausen [father of Claus Thomesen] is not to found in the census of 1801.....so either he moved away from Stokkemarke OR died between 1787-1801; but there is no Thomas Clausen dying in Stokkemarke in this time period, but there is the following person....
Begravet: 22. Februar 1795 in Stokkemarke Sogn.
Navn: Thomas Fynboe i Tammetofte. [So a Thomas from Funen living in Tammetofte]
Alder: 50 Aar.
Source (page 259, left): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118784#156855,26297556
On Funen [specifically Nørre Næraa Sogn] there is actually a Thomas Clausen marrying a Bodil Hansdatter in 1778 and no such couple appear in the census 1787 in Nørre Næraa....
Viet: 28. December 1778 in Nørre Næraa Sogn.
Thomas Clausen og Bodild Hansdatter copulerede.
Source (page 37, right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138087#180395,30600460
So far from any proof, but a working hypothesis, that this couple moved to Lolland.
-------------------
The daughter of Thomas Clausen & Bodil Hansdatter (appearing in the census of 1787) must be this one in census 1801.
Census 1801: Maribo, Lollands Sønder, Stokkemarke Sogn, Bøllesminde Parcell, , 1.Familie, FT-1801, B7706
Jacob Bølle 47 Gift Husbonde Forpagter
Kirstine Jensen 52 Gift hans Kone

Kirsten Thomasdatter 7 - Deres Barn
Klaus Thomasen 5 - Deres Barn
Hans Thomasen 2 - Deres Barn

Actually there is a Kirsten baptised in 1779 in Nørre Næraa with father Thomas Clausen!!
It totally fits with her being 22 years old in the census 1801!
Nørre Næraa Sogn:

So it really does look like Thomas Clausen and Bodil Hansdatter was from Funen [Danish: Fyn].
Roerslev is in Nørre Næraa Sogn, Skam Herred, Odense Amt.
This was one very lucky find!! [only possible because his name is fairly uncommon]
Cheers

Gyldensten Gods.
Skifteprotokol [Probate-protocol] for Gyldensteen (1772-1789).
Anno 1782 den 5. November....bonde gaard i Roarsløw Bye [= Roerslev by]...fæsteren Claus Thomsen, hvis hustru navnlig Karen Lars Datter for 30de Døgn siden ved Døden er afgaaet..

Source (page 131, right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17070359#139578,34356275
NB: So Karen Larsdatter - the wife of "fæstegårdmand" Claus Thomsen - died 30 days before this probate.
Their son Thomas Clausen - 34 years old - is located on Lolland within the Count of Knuthenborg's lands.
[This is proof as he is in Stokkemarke in 1782, where Claus Thomesen is born the same year]
Here is the work of other genealogists:
Claus Thomasen (FT87: Roerslev 2.)

That this Claus Nau is the father of Thomas Clausen - later fæster in Roerslev - is not absolutely proven yet:
Uggerslev Sogn.
Døbt:
Die Annuntiatio Mariæ [25. Marts 1694] blefv Clauss Nous Rytters barn i Uggerslev ?krisnet?, som vaar fød den 23. Martii kaldet Thomas [Clausen].
Source (page 112, left bottom): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138663#181804,30866420
So Claus Nou is a Rytter [= cavalryman] in Uggerslev.
Første Fynske nationale Rytterregiment.
1. regiments skifteprotokol (1710-1718): [Military Probate]
Anno 1715 den 28 Marts.....General-Major Chrestian Juels Cuirasser Regiment udlagde Ryttergaard udi Uggerslef.....
..afgangne Claus Nau..
..efterladte hustru Catharina Thomesdatter..
Sønner:
Thomas Clausen, 21 Aar.
Source (page 210, right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17070972#282541,55011361
So he was a cuirassier in the "1st. Funen national Cavalry Regiment" under Generalmajor Juel.
Cuirassiers were heavy cavalry with armoured breastplates [the shock troops on the battle field up and including the Napoleonic wars]
Conclusion:
Claus Nogs/Nau/Nov/Snou/Schnar [enormous spelling variations] (died 1715) & Catharina Thomesdatter
Thomas Clausen (1694 -1747) & Magdalene Hansdatter.
Claus Thomasen (1723-1800) & Karen Larsdatter (-1782)
Thomas Clausen (1748-1795) & Bodil Hansdatter.
Claus Thomsen/Thomesen (1782-1842) & Ane Hansdatter (1790-1842).
Now that is pretty good, don't you think.
Cheers
Niels

Final proof that rytter Claus Nau is the father of Thomas Clausen (1694-1747) in Roerslev and he is the father of Claus Thomasen (1723-1800) in Roerslev!!
Gyldensten Gods
Skifteprotokol for Gyldensteen (1721-1763):
Anno 1749 den 17. November.....Uggerslef Sogn og Bye....Knud Nielsens ved døden afgangne hustru salig Catharina Thomasdatter...
Børn af forrige ægteskab [children of the former marriage - with Claus Nau]
salig Thomas Clausen i Roerslef, hans efterlevende børn ere Claus Thomasen boende i Roerslef..
Source (page 31, bottom right - page 32, left): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17070359#139575,34355477
So Catharina Thomadatter died in 1749, her son (with Claus Nau) Thomas Clausen died 1747 in Roerslev, but his son Claus Thomasen living in Roerslev can inherit. [This gives us total proof]

Uggerslev Sogn:
Dend 3. Februar [1693] blef Claus Novs hustru i Ugersløf begrafvet, som vaar ?0 Aar gammel, 2 uger og 1 dag.
Source (page 103. left): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138663#181804,30866411
NB: So this is the burial of the former wife of Claus "Nau". Hard to see what the age is.....
Viet: 6. Oktober 1681 i Skeby Sogn.
Claus Schnap Rytter og Anne Mortensdatter af ?Ørritslev? [Ørritslev is in Skeby Sogn]
Source (page 55, bottom right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138663#181804,30866411
NB: They will get 6 children in Skeby Sogn, with him under the name of Claus Nog, Claus Noy or Claus Rytter (last one in 1691). "Schnap" is most likely an army name (modern Danish "snap" meaning "fast/quick").
These children are (almost) the same names as occurs as inheritors of the former wife (unnamed in the probate) of Claus "Nau" in the probate of 1715....
So it is between 1691-1693 where they move to Uggerslev, where Anne Mortensdatter died in 1693 and he remarries with Catharina Thomasdatter (Thomas Clausen born 1694 in Uggerslev is their first child).

Nils, I never expected you to do so much research! It's amazing and generous at the same time. It will take me a few days to be able to sort this out, so I may need to ask for clarification next week. Unfortunately, I'm not able to work on it before Sunday, but I'm sure looking forward to it! I really appreciate the extensive research and all of the source links you provided as well as your expert ability to translate even the most difficult records. You're an angel for sure!

Hi Joellen.
Happy to help!
Just noticed I had put in a wrong link for the marriage in 1781 [have so many taps open], so here it is again with the correct link:
Viet: 6. Oktober 1681 i Skeby Sogn.
Claus ?Schnap/Schnar? Rytter og Anne Mortensdatter af ?Ørritslev? [Ørritslev is in Skeby Sogn]
Source (page 55, bottom right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138367#181133,30753623
Unclear if Schnap or Shhnar as it looks somewhat overwritten?!
NB: They will get at least 6 children in Skeby Sogn (have found Mette Helvig, Hans, Margrethe, Rebecca, Johan & Lars), with him under the name of Claus Nog, Claus Noy or Claus Rytter (last one in 1691).
NB: His daughter in her marriage of 1712 is called Margrethe Clausdatter Schnar.

Source (page 60, left mid): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138367#181133,30753628
NB: The probate after Claus "Nau" in 1715 tells that his daughter (baptised in 1686) Margrethe is married to Hans Sørensen, so it is definitely the correct daughter.
Found the oldest child of Claus "of-many-names" which was out of wedlock.

NB: The entry is very hard to read.
Dorthe Clausdatter appears in the probate of Claus "Nau" in 1715 as married to Anders Christophersen [that means all the names of the children with Anne Mortensdatter in that probate is accounted for].
Claus is first detected as "Claus Naa? Rytter og hans hustrue" in Uggerslev in January 1693 with his wife [she is buried 3rd February 1693).

Niels I am Kristin Richards, who Joellen McAlister is helping. Thank you so much for the help on my family it very exciting to find family members so far back. Your research is amazing. I am so grateful to have the ability to expand my tree and learn more about where my ancestors are from. It may take us a month to add all this to the tree. We may have some additional questions or need for clarification as we go. I can see from other posts you are a huge benefit to folks researching their family tree.
Thank you!!!

So Hans Jørgen Eriksen's father was according to these informations Erik Hansen (1713-1783).
With his 1st wife unnamed got the sons Anders (in 1747) and Hans Jørgen (in 1754), then later remarried with Ellen Jacobsdatter.

Niels,
I'm still working on all of the information you sent and was trying to figure out a probate for Claus Nau:
First Funen National Cavalry Regiment.
1. regiments skifteprotokol (1710-1718): [Military Probate]
Anno 1715 on 28 March .....General-Major Chrestian Juel's Cuirasser Regiment deployed Ryttergaard udi Uggerslef.....
.. departed Claus Nau ..
..survived wife Catharina Thomesdatter ..
Sons:
Thomas Clausen, 21 Aar.

So he was a cuirassier in the "1st. Funen national Cavalry Regiment" under Generalmajor Juel.
Cuirassiers were heavy cavalry with armoured breastplates [the shock troops on the battle field up and including the Napoleonic wars]
Your Conclusion:
Claus Nogs/Nau/Nov/Snou/Schnar [enormous spelling variations] (died 1715) & Catharina Thomesdatter
Thomas Clausen (1694 -1747) & Magdalene Hansdatter.
Claus Thomasen (1723-1800) & Karen Larsdatter (-1782)
Thomas Clausen (1748-1795) & Bodil Hansdatter.
Claus Thomsen/Thomesen (1782-1842) & Ane Hansdatter (1790-1842).
Question: Would you mind translating anything pertaining to his wife and children -- such as age, where they are living and any other relationships? It looks like a wonderful, informative probate about the family!
Thanks so much!
Joellen
