A Drath mystery!
My greatgrandmother Gretje Schuster and her family came from OstFriesland to Adams County, Illinois in the 1860s and then on to Gage county, Nebraska. They attended Zion Lutheran Church near Pickrell, and most of the community came from the same region of Germany and maintained records in German until after WWI. They spoke Low German. So here's my question: Gretje's brother Henry is listed in the church's confirmation record in 1887 as Henry Drath Schuster and his father's name is listed as Henrich Drath Schuster even though his father's name was Evert Mennen Schuster (he went by David in some records.) Then in Henry's wedding record in 1893 he is listed as Heinrich Wee Schuster. I have never seen Drath or Wee as a middle name! Any ideas? Unfortunately the church's baptism records don't begin until 1874 and he was born in 1872. He is entry 9 on the confirmation records and entry 32 on the marriages. I have been unable to find any death records for him. His wife and children predeceased him and he had no grandchildren. Thanks in advance for any help. Fran Z

I think the "Wei" entry was probably a mistake by the scribe who accidentally started to write the brides's last name Weidemann and forgot to cross it out.
