Help with a given name from French equivalent.
I have an individual who is listed as Germain Becker in the civil registration record I found for the period around 1800 when the area near Cologne was under French governance. Helpers in this group kindly shared links to male names in various languages. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Translations_of_male_given_names_in_multiple_languages
Germain is not found on this list and my attempts at Googling haven't helped me. I have a civil death registration for a woman who I think is his daughter in 1844. Right village, right timeframe, right wife's name but the father's given name is "Hermann". It doesn't look like the French version of Hermann is anything like Germain. I have found no one with a given name near to Germain in the years after the French were gone. Any ideas on what the given name would be in German?
Thanks!

Germain is the French interpretation of Germanus ==>, so the German spelling variant is indeed Hermann, Herman or Hermanus. Here in Belgium the name is still in use today as well as in France.
