Immigration Record Residence Help
Good day -
I am trying to correctly decipher this residence information from a 1914 US immigration form/ship manifest.
I am able to read "Giovanni Kotnik", "Trieste", "No 717", and "Austria" ... but am having difficulty deciphering the word after "Trieste".
I would appreciate any help in deciphering this word. Also, does this list an actual residence? Or is it an "area" of Trieste?
PS - I understand that Trieste was not part of Italy in 1914 but am hoping for some ideas from this august group! 😀

@Brian & Pam Hello Brian, thanks for contacting us, I can read Trieste, Servola, Austria
Trieste belonged to the Habsburg monarchy from 1382 until 1918. In the 19th century the monarchy was one of the Great Powers of Europe and Trieste was its most important seaport. As a prosperous trading hub in the Mediterranean region, Trieste became the fourth largest city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (after Vienna, Budapest, and Prague). In the fin de siècle period it emerged as an important hub for literature and music. Trieste underwent an economic revival during the 1930s, and the Free Territory of Trieste became a major site of the struggle between the Eastern and Western blocs after the Second World War. (taking from Wikipedia) Hope this will be useful for your research. Regards Graziela

Thank you, Graziela. The "Servola" was the piece we were looking for :) And it adds up now - and it appears that Servola is (was) a Slovenia district of Trieste and our ancestors are ethnic Slovenes. We will keep looking for documentation to track down this ancestral "home". Thank you again for your help!
