Need help finding locale of Jewish records in Berg Koenigsberg
In the Obituary of Hans George Rosenbaum G67K-YGL it says that he was born in Königsberg.
In the 1935 Arrival Records in New York it says his father resided at 1/2 Schiefer Berg, Koenigsberg. When i look at the library catalog for Königsberg there are many options. Can someone direct me to where i might find his records. He and his father were Jewish.
Thank you very much,
Jeanie Peck

Hello Jeanie,
There are/were several Königsbergs in Germany; I assume you refer to Königsberg in East Prussia (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/11035003).
After 1874 birth, marriage and death records for all citizens in Prussia/Germany were kept at the civil registry offices (Standesamt), independent of faith. Standesamt records for the Eastern German Provinces (now Poland) are kept at the Landesarchiv Berlin and are (at least partly) accessible on Ancestry (https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/60749/). Königsberg had four Standesamts that were responsible for different parts of the town.
Note, however, that there is a legal blocking period for the records, 110 years for birth, 80 years for marriage, and 30 years for death records. So birth records are accessible only for births before ~1910, unless you are a direct decendant.
