Are there separate ledgers for illegitimate births in 19th century Brandenburg?
I hope you can help with this question - I have hired a German researcher to send me records of all births for one of my family names in Weselitz, Brandenburg for the years 1825 to 1850. I know that several daughters had illegitimate children in this time period, but he only found documentation of one of these children for his death. Is there a separate book for illegitimate births, did he miss them or were they entirely unregistered? Thanks.

Illegitimate births were always registered as such and they were entered in the same church book as legitimate births. Without further details it is difficult to say why your researcher didn't find the birth records. It is important to know in which church/parish the children were baptized; as I understand Weselitz belonged to another parish (Bertikow for the lutheran church, Prenzlau for catholic). Also, are all church books of that time period existing and available?
