Help with a name in 1822 death record
This 1822 death record lists a daughter Lentje who married a seaman [Schiffer?] and had 3 children, but I cannot transcribe the names. Please help.
My partial transcription:
... Tochter Lentje, [?] [?] [?] Schiffer? Hans [S or M__?] [O__?]
in Delve verheiratet ist und Kdr [Kinder]: 1, Marga[re]tha. 2, Trinke, 3, Hans Mu__?

Archion might have the Delve records if they are Lutheran. I don't have a current subscription so I can't look but seems to be in the date range of interest:

Hello @Robt_Nielsen
the names are partly hard to read. My transcription as far as I can read:
eine Tochter Lentje, die an den Schiffer Hans ___ Otters(?) in Delve verheiratet ist und Kdr: 1, Margetha. 2, Trinke. 3, Hans ___ hat.
The name of the son is apparently the same as the father's, it seems to start with Mu__, but I can't figure out any that fits.

@Ulrich Neitzel thanks for the response.
I've since come across the family name of "Mumm" in records. Could that be the husband's surname and the apparent "Otters" an occupation?

Yes, Mumm is a possible surname particularly in this area. However, I don't know what occupation Otters should be (and his occupation is already given as Schiffer). Maybe it is an additional family or farm name?

It would be useful to see a larger section of the document, both to be able to compare the writing, and to learn about the "syntax" of the entries.
"Otters" could indeed be a nickname (farm name) - or a genitive of the father's name (but then Otter is not a given name I have ever heard).

@Ulrich Neitzel @WSeelentag Here is a screen capture of the entire record.
Now that I think about it, I agree that the apparent "Otters" "Ottens" is likely not an occupation because I forgot about the "Schiffer" term.
There are family names of "Otte", "Ott", and "Otto" scattered throughout other records in this parish.

OK - this is more an obituary than a death notice.
I have problems with a transcription - so let's look at the potential meaning:
The deceased is Johann Volkers. His first wife was Lentje, daughter of Hans Bruhn and Trinki nee Bruhn. Lentje (the wife) died in 1796 - and the couple had a daughter, also Lentje.
Daughter Lentje was married with the "Schiffer(?)" Hans Mumm Ottens and had three children: 1) Margethe, 2) Trinki, 3) Hans Mumm.
Question: was Mumm the surname of the family - or the second name for the two Hans (father and son). Could (in the latter case) Ottens be the family's surname? You mention that Otte (and similar surnames) seem to be quite common in the community.
Do you have checked the marriage records … is there a marriage of a Lentje Volkers with N.N. ?

Your thinking mirrors mine, but I've had no luck locating a marriage record for this Lentje Volkers because I have not yet figured out which parish has records for families from Delve. I've checked available records for all the logical nearby parishes, but none seem to include families from that village.

@JohnsonGreg Thanks for that lead.
I use Archion and was focusing on parish records in Kirchenkreis Schleswig-Flensburg in the Erfde area, close to Delve, and did not think to look in Kirchenkreis Dithmarschen. Meyers Gazetteer did not list Delve itself as a possible parish for the village of Delve.
I found Taufen records for the "Ottens" family that match the individuals I was interested in.
Thanks again!
