Tracking Danube Swabian ancestors back to Germany from Hungary
I am trying to track my Danube Swabian ancestors back from Marienfeld, Hungary to where they came from in Germany. Anyone else had success in this effort? I have the marriage and death record of my farthest back ancestor, Peter Knapp, and neither list parents names or date or place of birth. I do know he was born in 1788, as he was 48 when he died in 1836. Any ideas where to look?

I found this on Ancestry. Unfortunately there are no sources, as you can see. There were no specific dates for Johann Peter Knapp. PaulaAnn

Sometimes original books that have an observations or notes entry on the far right hand side of the page will indicate an immigrants place of birth, or some other important piece of information. I am trying to find out if your Peter Knapp is the same as the one married to Dorothea Menning:
The book for Nagy Teremia (Hungarian name for Marienfeld) does look to be indexed online, but I don't see much info in the images.

Yes, it is Peter Knapp married to Dorothea Menning. I have the images for the original marriage and death records for him, and as far as I can tell they unfortunately have no mention of birthplace. :(
