How to find Ukraine Revision Lists
Hello,
I listened to the class on Ukraine research that Daniel Jones shared on the 18th of this month and was interested to know how one goes about looking for the revision lists - kind of census it seems, for areas in Ukraine. I'm looking particularly for the 4th/ 5th and the 9th/10th lists. I know areas in Galicia where I need to look - but unsure where I find related lists.
Thanks for whatever direction you're able to provide!

Hello Susanne!
I'm glad you listened to Daniel's class - it was great! As far as revision lists go, they are a Russian Empire resource - and not available for areas of Ukraine that were formerly part of Galicia (Austro-Hungarian Empire).
If you are looking for revision lists for areas of Ukraine that were formerly part of the Russian Empire (see the map on the this page to get an idea of Russian Empire/Galicia boundaries: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Ukraine_Gazetteers), there are many different places you can find them. We have many available through FamilySearch. Search both the Catalog and Images at the uyezd or district level. They are most often catalogued under Taxation or Census.
You can also find many available through Ukrainian WikiSource (Alex Krakovsky) here: https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/%D0%90%D1%80%D1%85%D1%96%D0%B2%D0%B8
Joe Everett taught a great class on this resource during the Russian Empire Research series, but if you missed it, there is a detailed handout here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/img_auth.php/b/b2/Handout-Wikisource_for_Ukrainian_Research-Everett.pdf
If you have Jewish ancestors, I'd recommend searching the Ukraine database on JewishGen - there are lots of indexed revision lists for Jewish individuals there.

Thank you, Ellie!
Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly - If the area I'm looking for was in Galicia, there won't be revision lists accessible? I'm looking for some towns - a few listed following as listed in SGGEE resource you provided. None of these would be included correct? I don't want to spend time looking for something that doesn't exist, but don't want to miss something if it might be there! ha! Thanks for your help!!

Yes, Susanne, that is correct. There are no revision lists for Galica. Metrical books are probably going to be your best bet here. Have you been able to locate any of those yet? If not, let me know what religion they were and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction of where to find them :)

Thank you, Ellie! Just what I needed to know! I have been looking at the parish records for the areas I need. I saw in the footnotes of Ortsfamilienbucher from my areas that there was some kind of census people were drawing information from and I was hoping it was revision lists!
i sure appreciate your help!!
