Opened Sources On The Source Page Should Remain Open
iMac, Apple M1, Retina Display 24-inch (4480 × 2520), MacOS Monterey 12.4, Safari 15.5
If I go to a person's source page, open a source to check details, and then go to a person's detail page, when I jump back to the sources, it acts as if the entire page reloads.
Rather than staying in the state I left it so I can continue working with that source, the source has closed and the page has scrolled back to the top. c
The source page should stay as it is so that I can flip back and forth between any of the person's tabs as I use the information in the source with any of them.
For example, I have the last source in the list open here:
I jump to the Detail page to check something:
I return to the source page to continue comparing and the page is back to this:
This should not be. It should stay as I left it.

That is super helpful on the older version.

I find this feature much more useful in the older version as well. It's challenging to go back and forth between the Details and Sources, only to have to search for the record we were viewing in the sources only seconds before. I would love to still have this feature in the new version.

I totally agree.

The update for this is finally up. 🙌
A quick note this will only remember the last source opened and scroll to that. So if you have 50 open and leave and come back it will only show you one when you come back. We imposed this limit so it wouldn't bog down the system.

There was (is) always the disadvantage in the old version of having to close all those open sources before rearranging their order or adding new sources. I had always looked for a way of switching to the Details page, then all the open sources being automatically closed when I returned to the Sources page. As discussed previously, we all have our own priorities when working within Family Tree, so I'm sure what seems a "good compromise" to me still won't suit many users. No complaints from me, though.

@Paul W Regarding your search for a way to close all the open sources, on the old pages the quickest way to do that was and still is to click Detail View on then off. On the old sources page this would close all the sources. On the new one, the most recently opened sources stays open but all the rest close.

No, this does not work for me - assuming I am understanding you correctly. Obviously, I should always open the Details and Sources pages using separate tabs but, if I don't, moving back and forwards from the Details page (say looking at Collaborate, Memories or Time Line in between) doesn't affect the fact that the sources I have opened earlier remain open, until I switch to another ID. After that, they are closed when I revert to the original ID, but not while I stay within the pages of the one ID.

I either was not clear or there is something browser specific going on here. I mainly use Safari.
Switching to the old sources page, here I have the first and third source open.
If I click Detail View all the sources open.
If I click Detail View again, they all close.
Using the new sources page, the last source to open would have remained open. If the new page does not work like this for you, then I'd view it as a bug that needs to be worked on for the browser you use.

I usually use Firefox, but just switched to Chrome and still the same behaviour (whereby the sources remain open whilst I work on the same ID). Windows 10, if that makes any difference.

So, @lyleblunttoronto1 , who is seeing the bug, me or Paul? What is supposed to happen when you turn Detail View off on the Sources page? Nothing, as happens for Paul? Or all the sources close except the last one opened as happens for me using Safari 16.1?

Just to make it clear - I am talking (all the time) about the way the old Sources page works for me. You suggested that by going back to the (old) Details page, then returning to the (old) Sources page the opened sources would automatically close, but I could not replicate this using either Chrome or Firefox.
I imagine @lyleblunttoronto1 will only be interested in issues with the new pages. As the old version is about be be wound up shortly, I didn't expect any changes to be make that will affect the old Source page.

It must be late. I'm just not managing to explain myself. To be perfectly clear, it will take a video. Here it is:

@Paul W, if you do not get this same effect, then the question is, why not? Isn't turning off Detail View on the source page supposed to close all the sources?

At last it has clicked as to what I need to do using the old version!
I always have Detail View off on the Sources page, so when I return from the Detail / Person page the sources I opened previously are still open. However, to close them all I click once on Detail View - which opens every source - then click on it once again, which switches it off and closes all the sources.
Naturally, I see your point with the new Sources page - where all but one of the sources are closed when turning Detail View grey. As the old version is about to go (and there is a simple way to close all open sources, after all) it still means your reported issue (using the new page) needs to be addressed.
UPDATE:
Now I've just re-read your post of February 3 and see you already explained the whole situation / solution (for me) perfectly well:
Regarding your search for a way to close all the open sources, on the old pages the quickest way to do that was and still is to click Detail View on then off. On the old sources page this would close all the sources. On the new one, the most recently opened sources stays open but all the rest close.
Thank you for your time and patience, until the solution to my problem finally sunk in!
(Just given your earlier response a retrospective "Like" - but not "Awesome", of course, for reasons already explained!)

Leaving the last fully opened source open when toggling the detailed view off will remain as it is. There seems to be use cases were staying in context of the last record is still benificial.

Yes, I agree that having the last opened source remain open is a nice feature.
How is it going with getting the source page to stay in place when editing a source rather than moving to the top of the page every time? I'm going back to pages I haven't worked on for a while and adding dates to sources. I will have a list of sources without dates at the bottom of the page and it would much more efficient to add each date without having to scroll back down to the bottom of the page every time.

I seem to not have that issue on the raidar. I may have thought it would be fixed with this issue. Do you have any more details for me?

@lyleblunttoronto1 Here are the full details: https://youtu.be/ZPzYAuAy70w
It would be nice is the page stayed in place so each date could just be added, or the sources otherwise edited, one right after the other.

It's interesting that it does that on just ADD and not EDIT
Thanks I got it reported
