Request on how to post in Discussions
- Please state where the record is from
- State the name(s) of the principal(s) in the record
- If the image is attached, attach the link to that image, if possible
- Attach one image per translation request
- Once the request is posted, please review it to (a) make sure it makes sense to the reader; (b) the image is attached; (c) the image is legible
- If there is a large number of requests, please post one or two at a time; wait for a response; then post one or two more
- Please crop the image to see the entire page. It helps the translator to see the whole context and offers more material for comparison with the scribe's style of writing
- Remember to thank the Responder
- If you like the response, give the Responder a "LIke"
- If the response answers your question, please mark the response "Answered"
- Please post the entire image instead of a "snippet".
Thank you very much!! PaulaAnn :)

Hi People,
I need your help to find the birth record( registry) of my great grandfather, Josef Werner, borned in Schlesien the 13th Oct 1869. I thinks that the town is Hennersdorf, but I found 5 towns with the same name in Schlesien.
I have the records of his marriage ( in Brazil) in a Lutheran Church, where as I told you before, I Found birth date, place, and His parents names and town.
I couldnt find when he migrate to Brazil for Josef ( ship records). But I have these records from my great grandmother ( they came from the actual Ukraine, through German Ports)
I`m sharin with you the image of the church records. You have to check line 19.
Thanks in advance
Gustavo,

OK. So, what needs to happen is to post this in "Discussions." Your request would be "Request for help to find birthplace of grandfather". Then state just as you have stated it for me. Good luck and let me know how it turns out, OK? PaulaAnn :)

Hello @henry tumasz,
FYI: You asked your question in the wrong place. You attached it to a previous announcement in the "Announcements" section at the homepage of the German Genealogy Research community forum. Next time when you ask a question or request a translation, scroll past the "Announcements" section to the next section entitled "Discussions", then click the blue tab to the right labeled "New Discussions" and ask your question or your translation request.
Here is the translation you requested. Please note that the decedent is named Friedrich Wilhelm Heldmann, not Johann Heldmann.
Number: 87.
Place of death: Varl at no. 178.
Decedent: Friedrich Wilhlem Heldmann.
Status of decedent: new farmer and husband of Charlotte Louise, née Kokomohr. Married 20 April 1814 in Wehdem.
Age of decedent: 73 years, 24 days [but given his birth date in the last column his age should be 73 years, 14 days].
Who does the decedent leave behind: wife, 2 adult sons, 4 adult daughters.
Day and hour of death: 13 April [1858], 2:00 pm.
Cause of death: old age.
Whether the decedent sought helpo of a licensed doctor or surgeon in the last 48 hours: [blank].
Day of burial: 16 April [1858].
Cemetery in which he was buried [BUT what appears to be written here is the decedent's birth date and birth place]: 29 March 1785 in Oppendorf.

This issue pertains to an image from one of the Kirchenbuch from Osteel. Not sure who should address it so I thought I would post it for guidance.
While researching my Ostfriesen relatives I noticed an error on the actual image that is displayed. Please see the link below:
The text as far as I can see is correct which references page 33 of the Osteel Kirchenbuch. However, the image # 646 displays page 32 rather than page 33 which contains the desired entry. That infirmation is actually on image 647. So, it appears the image 647 is the correct one for my relative Ade Hinderks Aden (entry # 15).
Any help would be appreciated.

How do mark your post/query as answered? I've looked about but can't figure it out.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello @Sharon Lynn Ringler cc: @PABulfinch
If you start your question as a "New Discussion" rather than using "Ask a Question" from the drop-down menu on the German Genealogy community homepage, you will not be given the opportunity to accept the answer.
To find the drop-down menu at the German Genealogy community homepage:
Go to the homepage and scroll past "Announcements" until you get to the heading "Discussions". To the right of the heading "Discussions" you will see a blue box with the words "New Discussion" and a downward pointing arrow. Most people "ask" their questions or request translations simply by clicking on the words "New Discussion". If you do this you will not be able to accept the answer to your question because the system program will not offer you this option.
To actually ask a question, click on the downward pointing arrow in the blue box and you will get a drop-down menu. Select "Ask a Question" and then post your question or request for translation. When somebody answers your question or request, you will then be given the oppotunity to accept the answer.
To indicate that your question has been answered when you asked it as a "New Discussion", simply add a new comment in the "Leave a Comment" box for that discussion that says: This query (or request) has been answered. But note that this is not necessary and most people don't do this.
Hope this helps you out.
When the new system was introduced in the last year or so, many people suggested that the default should be "Ask a Question" rather than "New Discussion", but thus far no action to make this change has occurred.
In the end you should feel comfortable to use "New Discussion" or "Ask a Question" -- whichever is easiest for you.
