Trying to find ancestor.
I recently joined this group to help solve a brick wall of mine in my family tree. Dik suggested posting my question here:
I am stuck at my ancestor, Sylvanus Ames https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9FWP-RD8
My cousin has used Ancestry and I have used Family Search and WikiTree plus paying a genealogist in several generations trying to find Sylvanus' parents and where they were from. We had a lead from a distant cousin saying Mary Ward was his mother. We can't find anything about her other than having her silhouette. My Sylvanus Ames, b. 1992, Bridgewater, Massachusetts (or possibly Taunton, Mass. from his obituary) died 1851 in Barre, New York. He married Sally Pope and they resided in New Bedford, Massachusetts and then moved to New York. Any ideas would be helpful! I tried my DNA Gedcom too without luck. We have children of Sylvanus and Sally Pope and her extended family I have looked through each of their children and her family to see if any of Sylvanus Ames' family is listed. Noting. The Rev. Sylvanus Ames is not his father since he passed away two years before Sylvanus was born. Hope someone could offer help?! Thanks for this group!

It’s interesting that one of Sylvanus’s sons and his first daughter Mary’s son’s were named “Francis Billington” as their given names. Francis Billington was a passenger on the Mayflower. I wonder if they were descendants of him? I couldn’t find Sulvanus’s birth record, however. Sorry!

Hi! I do not know how much this helps if any. I found a Masson record that may help, if you can find a loge that may help you such there records for possible information. I also found some possible relatives that may have more information, if you have not seen them yet. Please take a look at the clips I have included. That is all I have found. the birth and death years are the same I think.
