Help locating records - Kodermac or Scaraboc
Hi all! I’m doing a research on my family and was able to get to my grand grand parents, but then the records disappear. I’m guessing it might have an issue with spelling on last names, since the original records where from my grandparents immigration cards to Brazil. I believe accents and other characters presented in Eslovénia where not reproduced. Any hints on more common and similar spellings from the last names Kodermac or Scaraboc?
the person I’m following the trail is Olga Kodermac, G4BG-75R, and her parents Antonio Kodermac G67V-9PD And Maria Skaraboc G67J-TRV, most likely from Šempas, Nova Gorica, Eslovênia, Iugoslávia.
Any help is appreciated.

Do you know a birth year for your grandmother Olga? 1918 was the end of Austria Hungary and the beginning of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, later renamed Yugoslavia in 1929. This is also the time in many European countries when birth records began to be kept by both the government authorities (e.g. birth certificates) as well as the church. FS records only go to 1918, so if your grandmother was born after WWI, you'll need to reach out to either the Upravna Enota (local administrative office in Nova Gorica), or the local diocese. Many Slovenes speak English, or at least know somebody who does:

Thank you so much! I was able to find that she was born in 29/02/1920, does that change the place I should be looking for?

No. Civil Registration started in the western edge of Slovenia (known then as Istria) as early as 1868 for some towns, and Schoenpass or Šempas as it is now, was part of that area. You have a fair chance of finding something in the Upravna Enota archives.

Thank you! I sent them a message will all the details, now I´m hoping for the best. In other areas of my family tree I was able to get ancestors up to 1505. Thanks for your help! 😁

Hi ! I wanted to share that Diocese of Koper has responded me and I was able to retrive records related to my family.
Olga Kodermac was born in Šempas near Nova Gorica in Slovenia (at the time of her birth in Italy). The records regarding her are those of the Parish of Šempas. I was able to find her birth and baptism entry and some data about her parents:
- Antonino Kodermac (son of Franciscus and Maria), born on the 4th of July 1892 and died in 1948 in Parma (Italy)
- Maria Škarabot (daughter of Antonius and Josepha Loverčič), born on the 23rd of January 1895 and died on the 29th of May 1930.
Antonino and Maria married on the 31st of June (or January) 1920.
This is great news. Upravna enota Nova Gorica on the other hand only prives information if original message is written in local language. So I will try to translate to Slovenian and send it back.
Thanks for the help so far!

That's great news! Should you hit a brick wall, I know a genealogist in country who is able to do in person research for a very reasonable fee (especially since it wouldn't involve overnight travel).
