Are there records between 1900-1940 available for Giessen, near Frankfurt?
I’m trying to help a neighbor find his father’s birth record in Giessen which is about an hour north of Frankfurt. He is born in 1938. Archion only has records before 1870, and I haven’t found records on Family Search or Ancestry. I know Giessen was bombed in 1944, but I wondered if the reason things weren’t online might’ve been how recent the record is.
Does anyone have suggestions where else to look for birth records for Giessen between 1900-1940? Thank you.

By law, birth certificates in Germany are blocked from public view for privacy reasons for 110 years. A direct decendant, like your neighbor has of course the right to obtain a copy, but he must contact the responsible registry office (Standesamt) and prove his legitimate interest.
Here is the web site of the Standesamt in Giessen which details the requirements and the process (in German, you may translate with Google or DeepL): https://www.giessen.de/Rathaus/B%C3%BCrgerservice/Leistungen-von-A-Z/Beglaubigter-Ausdruck-aus-dem-Geburtenregister-Ausstellung.php?ModID=10&FID=640.2687.1&object=tx%7C2874.2.1&ort=640.11&redir=1
