Hello Kent,
Regarding your question from earlier today: Do you ever look at an entry and say, that is totally unreadable. Not going to even try.
This is a good question.
Yes, sometimes the handwriting is so illegible that is nearly impossible (at least for me) to transcribe and then translate the record. But this is where teamwork comes in. If I can at least get some of the words, I think it's worth posting even the little bit I can decipher and translate in the hope that other community volunteers will be able to do the same, and perhaps together we can come up with a translation. Another option is to provide a translated abstract of the record with names and dates, which is helpful even if it's not a complete translation.

Hello Kent,
Translation:
On the 13th of January [1681], early between 3 and 4 am, Peter Weidmann, citizen and lawyer here [and his] legitimate wife Elisabetha, their child was [born], who thereafter on the 16th of the same month was baptized and was named Anna Margreth. Baptimsal sponsors: (1) Hanß Matth[ias] Zeißlof, citizen and member of the council, also welfare/alms supervisor, [and] Eva Margreth, his wife. (2) Martin _____?, citizen and member of the council, and Regina Catharina, his legitimate wife.
Comments: I am reading the father's occupation as: procurator, which is Latin and translates as: lawyer. Can you confirm that Peter Weidmann was a lawyer?
Another interesting occupation is that of the first baptismal sponsor Hanß Matth[ias] Zeißlof, which is: Almosenpfleger. Ernest Thode, German-English Genealogical Dictionary, translates "Almosenpfleger" as: almoner; welfare supervisor (of church congregation).

Robert, Any progress on the tech problem?
Do you ever look at an entry and say, that is totally unreadable. Not going to even try. If so I completely understand because some of the Pfarrer's writing is terrible. Most are great.
Wow a "welfare supervisor of a church congregation." I'm sure the Pfarrer needed lots of help. I believe most of them taught school, did Sunday services, funerals and burials as well as checking in on the congregation and keeping the buildings in repair.
I haven't done any research on Peter Weidmann FS says: Hanß Peter Weidmann an esteemed citizen and Procurator for the village of Graben. So you are right on the money.
I now realize I marked the wrong entry with my red squares. Anna Margaretha is the first entry in 1681.
Thanks for doing this one!!! MrG
