Y DNA Question
I have an ancestor who emigrated from Spain to the United States about 1802-1804 that I am trying to find the area in Spain he emigrated from. I have exhausted all resources (online, offline (mainly), historical society, archives, FANS on any document I could get a hold of or from the same country around that time period). There are a few sources (such as church records) that are missing (and confirmed with archives etc that they likely no longer exist). The last name is not in any of my autosomal DNA matches anywhere. I have a family member that would be a Y DNA candidate (direct male lineage from the ancestor), but I am not sure given there is no surname match (include alternative spellings) that I have seen that the Y DNA would be worth spending the money on? Thoughts appreciated.

The thing with Y-DNA is you need others who would match to test or will test in the future. The more matches you get, the more information you'll receive.
Data is always good. Testing is a great idea, but you might need some patience until the right testers come along. In the meantime, you'll have very useful and reliable information. Try to join a project with knowledgeable admins.
