Answered- Bresson French Ancestors Settling in Lee County, IL
I am stuck on findind more information on my 3rd Great-granparents, Jean (John) Bresson and Francoise Caroline Remy.
The information I have so far:
Jean (John) Bresson (1798-1869)
B: 21 Aug 1798, Massiac, Cantal, Auvergne, France
D: 23 Aug 1868, Dixon, Lee, Illinois, USA (Buried in Amboy, IL)
He immigrated to the U.S. on 8 May, 1855 with is wife and 3 children: Delphine, Hippolyte "Polite", and Delphin. They settled in Lee County, IL.
I believe Jean and Françoise married in 1833.
Françoise Caroline Remy (1808–?)
B: 7 Oct 1808, Magnivray, 70469, Haute-Saône, Franche-Comté, France??
D: Unknown, Dixon, Lee, Illinois, USA"
Because I am unable to read French, I am not able to verify Jean or Françoise's birth records, parents or siblings.
If anyone can assist in my research, it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joan Bresson-Custer

Thanks Matthie,
I have not see these names used before in front of my ancestors.
F Jeanne Claude Delphine BRESSON 1835-1916 - I have only seen Delphine Bresson
H Auguste François Hippolyte BRESSON 1837-1900 - I have only seen Hippolyte (or Polite) Bresson
H Jean Claude Delphin BRESSON 1846-1900 - I have only seen Delphin Jules Bresson
Was it common to have these additional names and were they used? Would these be on birth records.
In regards to Jean Bresson's records. I am now going in a new direction, as some other references I have seen, have his father has a Jean Bresson too.
I now have a new direction to look.
Thanks again.

It's current to have 3 names and one surname in the XIX century.
Be carefull with informations on Geneanet, all informations are not true but you have good directions.
You need to verify in the online french departemental records.

To answers to your first question, the ascendance of Jean BRESSON is :
Jean BRESSON (Birth 20 january 1798 Esmoulières, Haute-Saône, France Death 23 august 1868, Amboy, Illinois, US), son of Joseph Gabriel BRESSON and Marie Rose FORMET
Joseph Gabriel BRESSON (Birth 18 nov 1769 Faucogney-et-la-Mer, Haute-Saône, France Death 10 january 1819 Esmoulières, Haute-Saône, France ) was son of Claude Antoine BRESSON and Marie Gabrielle RINGUEZ
Marie Rose FORMET (Birth 25 february 1766 Faucogney-et-la-Mer, Haute-Saône, France Death 09 march 1827 Esmoulières, Haute-Saône, France) was daughter of Jean Claude FORMET and Marguerite DIRAND
Joseph Gabriel BRESSON and Marie Rose FORMET got married the 15 june 1790 at Faucogney-et-la-Mer, Haute-Saône, France

Wow. This totally changes who I thought Jean Bresson's parents were.
My relatives had this in their trees:
Jean's father as another Jean Nicolas Bresson (B:19 Nov 1779 Bouhans Les Lure, Hte Saone, France; D: 31 Mar 1866) His father was listed as Eloy Marchae Bresson (B:17 Mar 1746 Bouhans, Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France; D:28 Aug 1807 Bouhans, Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France)
Not being familiar enough with France, I am not sure the Bressons listed were anywhere close to the Bressons you have now provided to me.
I am so appreciative.
I am leaving on a trip tonight until Friday night, so if I do not respond right away, you know why.

And BRESSON Jean Nicolas BRESSON, was born, lived and dead at Bouhans-les-Lure, married to Marie Rose Sarazin.
They have had 12 children, all of them born in Bouhans-les-Lure, between 1774 and 1792.
I think it's not yours.

Thank you for checlking.
I am assuming that none of the children of BRESSON Jean Nicolas BRESSON, and Marie Rose Sarazin had a son named John (Jean) either.
I looked up both Bouhans-les-Lure and Esmoulières in Google and wikipedia. They both appear to be part of Bourgogne-Haute-Saône region.
Wikipedia says Bouhans-les-Lure is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France.
It also said that Esmoulières is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. The dwarf chansonnier Auguste Tuaillon was born in Esmoulières.
The last sentence peaked my interest as I have a 3rd great grandmother named Julienne Toullian (who married Laurent Gehant) and I think they are from that area too. I have seen her last name spelled numerous ways.
Julienne Marie Collileux Toullian (B:14 Nov 1828 Esmoulieres, Haute-Saône, Franche-Comté, France; D:26 Jun 1899 West Brooklyn Township, Lee County, Illinois, USA)
So. I am going to input the correct Bresson line into my tree.
Thanks so much for the information.
