No "Beta" Mark or Icon appears on Screens for BETA site to indicate one is there, like it used to
No "Beta" Mark or Icon, appears on the Screens, for BETA site, to indicate that one is there, like it used to (ie. Well, on the Home Page, at least).
For all intents and purposes, there is no indication, that one using the BETA site.
One only knows that one is in the BETA site; because, one has Logged In there.
If one was not care full or distracted, one could happily work away, thinking they as in the Live site.
It was much better, when there was a "Beta" Mark or Icon on the on the Screens for BETA site to indicate that one is there (ie. Well, on the Home Page, at least).
Just saying

It always(?) says Beta in the URL at the top of the browser window. I've always felt that was enough for me - is it possible for people to suppress the display of the URL and thereby lose their place? That wouldn't be a good idea for exactly these reasons.

@Adrian Bruce1
Exactly.
We all get forgetful or distracted.
Such could lead to much heartache and having to do much Duplication (from the BETA site, to the Live site).
We're not all perfect.
Minor issue, in the scheme of things; but, yet an important one.0 -
@Adrian Bruce1 Yes, it is possible to go full-screen and suppress the browser tabs, address bar, bookmark bar and Windows taskbar if you want to. F11 will do it. I don't do that, though.
I hadn't used the beta site until relatively recently, so I don't know what the discriminators might have been in the past. I was surprised to see that the only indicator seems to be the dim "beta" in the URL. I used to work as an engineer on systems where we would have multiple screens open at once, each to a different environment (e.g. production, UAT, beta, test, whatever). The applications were configurable so that they could have a distinctive appearance, much more so than FamilySearch's "beta" in the address bar.
My first thought would be to suggest adding the word "BETA" in a distinctive colour in the "FamilySearch" image at the left of the menu bar. The menu bar is present on most pages. Of course that still leaves the possibility of a user on the live site working away happily, thinking they were on the beta site!

@JulianBrown38 - thanks for the info on suppressing browser tabs and everything. I didn't know if it was possible - but feared it might be. Doing so would seem seriously risky, which is why I'd never contemplate it myself, but maybe someone might do it accidentally and thus lose track of whether they were in Production or Beta. (Incidentally, F11 on Chrome seems to sweep away a lot more than F11 on Firefox - at least the way mine are configured - another reason to keep away from Chrome 😏 )
I'd agree, therefore, that to cope with the possibility of someone removing the URL etc from visibility, the most sensible thing would be to always display text like "Beta" or "Production" respectively.

Since no moderator has as yet popped up here I have flagged this as a bug.

@MandyShaw1
Thanks.
But, we also submitted as Suggest an Idea.
We referenced this post.
Hopefully, either way, we may get a "Beta" Mark or Icon appearing again on the Screens for BETA site, fingers crossed.2 -
It was reported and is being looked into. Sam
