Photos with unknown exact dates
When adding Titles or Descriptions to Photos/Memories, is there a PREFERRED format when the exact date is not known? Here are a few examples: Abt 1944, abt. 1944, About 1944, 1944ca., 1944 CA, circa 1944, 1944 approx., etc, etc. You can see there are many more ways of showing all the possibilities.

In the title or description, there is no particular date format that is preferred or standard. Just write whatever seems clear to those who will read that title or description.
Another place to enter a date is in the actual Date field in the Information panel for the Memory. That field allows you to enter a date in a variety of formats, but then that date is standardized. So I could type in just about any of the options you mentioned above, and it would be saved as "about 1944" — that is the way FamilySearch standardizes an approximate year. Even if you mention a date in the title or description, it's good to enter a value in the Date field. That will allow other users who are viewing the set of Memories attached to a person to use the Filter button and sort them chronologically.
