Greetings,

Background Information:
I have a school record showing that my great-grandfather, Arnold George Arnold (born 15 February 1883 in Crosby, Lancashire, England), is listed in the Cheshire, Chester Boughton School register with the date 4 April 1892. However, the record is slightly confusing because I cannot determine whether the address listed is the school’s address, or whether it represents Arnold George Arnold’s home residence at that time. The address recorded is 30 Christleton Road, Cheshire, England.

On the 1891 England Census, Arnold George Arnold is living with his family in Liverpool and is listed as age eight. He would have been about nine years old when the school entry was made in 1892. The family later appears in Birkenhead, Cheshire, on the 1901 England Census, but Arnold George Arnold is not living with them in that census. This raises the possibility that he may have been living at the school, boarding elsewhere, or living with another relative.

Question:

Does the address 30 Christleton Road, Cheshire, England recorded in the Cheshire, Chester Boughton School admission record dated 4 April 1892 represent the residence of Arnold George Arnold (b. 15 February 1883, Crosby, Lancashire), or is it the address of the school or another institution connected to his attendance?

Please see a link below to the record in question.

This description of the school may be useful, if you haven't already found this one: https://www.childrenshomes.org.uk/ChesterIS/

And you may want to post in the group for England Research or the one for British Isles Research where those local to the area may be of assistance.

    Best of luck!

@Susan Cutler - this is one of the problems in only working from an index entry for a single record. If you were able to see the equivalent original record in FindMyPast (for instance in a library with an institutional subscription to FMP), then you would see that the "30 Christleton Road" column is genuinely headed with "Residence" and (most of) the addresses change from line to line so that the only sensible reading is that this is where the child is living on admission. (His previous school is listed and is somewhere in Liverpool - the full address can be seen on the original)
