Greek Orthodox family in Tanta, Egypt – Polytaris / Dompropoulos
Hello everyone,
I am researching a Greek Orthodox family who lived in Tanta, Egypt, in the late 19th century.
Individuals:
- Dimitri Polytaris, born in Tanta in 1896
- Constantin Polytaris, born in Tanta in 1869
- Elizabeth Dompropoulos, born in Tanta in 1872
I am looking for:
- baptism, marriage or death records
- Greek consular registrations
- parish registers or community lists for Tanta
Possible name variants:
- Polytaris / Polytary / Πολυτάρης
- Dompropoulos / Dompropolos / Δομπρόπουλος
If anyone has experience with Greek parish records in Egypt, especially Tanta, or knows of relevant microfilms or archives, I would be very grateful for any guidance.
Thank you very much,
Isabelle

Good morning. Would this record set be of use?
https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:260303Unfortunately, it is only available in Salt Lake City because there are very recent records included.
Hope this helps.

As I see the catalog entry given by Áine.ní.Donnghaile I don't think this set of records is currently available at all, because the microfilm is held by Granite Mountain Record Vault. As I understand the situation, if the microfilm location is given as Granite Mountain Record Vault, the microfilm are no longer available for viewing anywhere.

But, Maureen, as has been explained, all microfilm has been digitized, and the digitized versions are available, but only in SLC, depending on contractual obligations.

Perhaps @Áine.ní.Donnghaile the catalog displays differently for us. For viewing, what I see is a microfilm reel icon
From this link, https://www.familysearch.org/en/locations/affiliates/faq/ a microfilm reel icon means "View on microfilm only at listed locations". As the ONLY listed Location I can see in the catalog link is Granite Mountain Record Vault, I do not believe these records are accessible.
If in fact as you say they are available in a digitised form at Salt Lake City Library, depending on contractual obligations, I think it is misleading for the catalog record to display a microfilm reel symbol.
Mod note: I added the image back to the post. Will reply to question in a PM. Sam ☺️

In this case, the images are digitized (they have a DGS number) but aren't available to view and are held on microfilm at the Granite Mountain Record Vault and there isn't a copy at the library. We don't have an exact reason, but it would be contractual.
