How do I edit an incorrect vital record index?
The United States, Western States Marriage Index (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPT4-Y6L6) says that my parents, Randal (KWCM-BFH) and Nancy (living) were married on 10 July 1981. But, I checked with my dad's family history records (which I inherited) and I called my mom on the phone. They were married on 14 July 1981. It won't let me edit the source. Any advice?

The 10 July 1981 date could well be the date the license was issued rather than the date of the marriage.
Since it is only an index, rather than the full record, we don't know what fields may have been present. Different states have different formats. Any combined index, from many different locations, is sure to have some errors because of different standards of recordkeeping.

I sent an email to the special collections department. Thanks for the advice @maryellenstevensbarnes1
That's a very good point. I didn't think of that. Thank you @Áine Ní Donnghaile.

@Randal Vincent 2 I just had to edit the date of marriage of an ancestor. Someone else had attached the marriage record but used the date the license was issued instead of the date of the marriage. It was fresh in my mind.
