I am relatively new to family history research and am wondering where to even start. I have been studying the elements of the Genealogical Proof Standard in one of my classes and I feel like it would help solidify my understanding if I tried to do a project of my own, however simple. Any ideas?

    Hello @AlainaLambert,

Have you asked yourself what it is you would like to discover about your family? Also have you asked yourself who would be your audience in reading your family history? Just your sibilings, parents, and collateral relatives or the general public? Perhaps you could start with your father's family history and see what you can discover about him and his ancestors.

Here's a good article to begin with: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Getting_Started/Intro

The important thing: don't get overwhelmed and try to do too much all at once.

    Good luck!

@AlainaLambert I ran across this RootsTech video which will help you as your expand your search for your relatives. It shows more in depth, how to find more information about your family, and clues that might not be "out in the open" (so to speak). This could help your knowledge of the Catalog, & of what is available for a research project.

Good luck on your research and on finding ideas for a research project!
