Attaching Records to Other Members in Family Tree

I've read all I can find about how to do this but only get as far as the Source Linker for the main person. How does one actually attach that record then? I need steps not generalities. I've even changed the focus to the person I want to add the record to, but still, how do you actually do this? So frustrating.

    @Terri Hillaert

    Are you seeing a screen like this???

    Screenshot 2025-11-26 190031.png

    After reviewing the details, if to your satisfaction the record 'belongs' to the target person, simply left click on the Attach button. Same with others in the record, assuming there are any….

    By your question sounds like you may be somewhere else. If that's the case give your best description of the steps taken and what you see. Someone should be able to steer you in the right direction

    With SourceLinker, you can attach the source to anyone who is a spouse, parent, child, or sibling of the "Tree Person." (In order to attach a sibling, you do have to have a parent name, even if it is the surname with no other information.)

    If you need to attach the source to someone with any other relationship, click on "Change Person" on the right side of the blue line above the Tree Person's name.

    For example, say you have a marriage record where the Tree Person is the groom. You can attach the source to him, his parents (if they are in the source), and his spouse—the bride. To attach the bride's parents, click "Change Person" and choose the bride's name from the list. Then she becomes the "Tree Person" and you can attach her parents.

    Sometimes you just can't attach the source to everyone. If there are grandparents and grandchildren, for example, there is no way to connect them without that generation between. You have to connect each one from a separate screen.

    @Amy Archibald Too bad these videos don't come with written text - some of us (like me) can't listen, remember and do things with our hands at the same time 😎

    @maryellenstevensbarnes1 It may be helpful to use a split screen or two computers. That way you can pause the video on one screen and practice on the other screen.

    Thanks I do have two computer monitors- with separate browsers - I use one for the instructions written in Word and the other for FS work 😎

    You can also access and go to a family history center near you and they will be able to help you.
