Can someone help?
Hi, I'm hoping I can find a relative or help locating the parents of my 2nd great grandfather, John Sinclair 1835-1922. He passed away in Shiawassee County michigan.
I've had a hard time finding his parents. His wife was Sarah Bertran(Bertrand) some spelling has Bertram they had 3 boys. All in Shiawassee co. I am stuck with John. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure you tried this already, maybe reach out to several of the source linkers on his Sources page, as they may be extended family relatives.

If you have a rough timeframe of when he immigrated from Scotland, volunteers can try to track the ship manifest.
As I am unable to find him yet on census records from 1840-1860.
Wish you all the best on your search.

Hi @DawnL5317.
Looking at the 1870 and 1880 census for John, I saw one of his neighbors, Jeanette Miller, was born in Scotland about 1844. Turns out, her maiden name was Sinclair as well.
She married in 1864 in Waterloo, Canada. Her marriage record says her parents were John and Mary.
This 1861 Canada census might be the family, although the mother's name is Jane there. https://recherche-collection-search.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/home/record?app=census&idnumber=44968631&ecopy=4391953_00175
There's a sparse tree for that family, but I don't know it's accuracy. It might not even be right for this Jeanette, because her death certificate has a very different surname for the mother than what was attached on that John's death record.
Ultimately, I'm not sure if they are siblings, cousins, or not related at all. Still, it's something to look into.
