Is this Given name: J. Hurst and Surname Purnell or Given name J. with Hurst Purnell as the Surname? If it's a female (and it almost always is) does the maiden name go in the Surname field with her married name or in the Given name field? Thanks!

    GN: J. Hurst
    SN: Purnell

Unless things have changed with AI, We do not assume sex based on a name; it has to have some kind of indicator, like "J. Hurst Purnell, her children…"

In this case, your GN is J. with the SN is Hurst Purnell. Maiden names, like Hurst Purnell or Smith Jones, go in the surname field before the married name; Purnell and Jones in the examples are the maiden names.

Thank you for the clarification. I was "modestly" sure that was correct but thought I'd check just to make sure.
