CHAT is Broke
I keep getting the "red dot" telling me that I have unread messages in Chat, when, in fact, I have no unread messages. Anyone else experiencing this?

@dlmelville I am getting the same thing. A red dot, but no new messages. I will forward this up the line to see if we can have it looked at.

For what it's worth, I had a red dot and one unread message. When I read the message, the red dot went away, as it should.
But then when I refreshed the page, the red dot came back. When I entered chat, I saw no unread messages — but the red dot went away. Yet when I refreshed the page again, the red dot came back.

@dlmelville thank you for bringing this error to our attention, it has been reported.

I clicked "Mark all chats read" (since for me they were) to get the dot to go away.

I am still experiencing it every time I log in or open a new tab.
I'll log in, see the red dot, click on messages, red dot goes away. Then I'll open a link (to a profile, search, record, etc.) on another tab and the red dot is then on that new tab.
The red dot will stay away if I go to a link and stay on that tab.

@ShelleWells - I just confirmed it's still happening for me. I was in this Community first and used the "FamilySearch" link to get to the main site - the red dot is there on the Chat item as soon as I log in.
I have not used "proper" Chat since June 2025 - I didn't get the red dot until I (foolishly?) went into the Chat facility a few days back and now it's there every day.
There is a strange thing though - down at the bottom of Chat is a section for Event Chats. Although they say "This section is empty", there is a View All option for some sections - those seem to be updating all the time. Is the red dot, perhaps, anything to do with those sections, most of which are meaningless to me?

Hi, I am having the same problem. I keep getting a red chat notification even though I have no new messages. I also noticed that some of my record hints for family members will not open, and I keep getting an error message when I try to view the images. I already tried different devices and browsers and cleared my cookies, but the problem continues.
I just wanted to report that this is happening to me as well.
Do you know when this might be fixed? Thank you.0 -
