What is the meaning of the word "DEAD" on this WWI UK Pension ledger Index Card?

It appears that this person has been marked as dead, maybe as of 30 Mar 1924, but he actually lived until 1974. Could this be a mistake or is there another meaning? It looks like the date and the letter "H" were added later. Any ideas?

    @RondaF

    Dead in this context means that the claim is "dead" meaning it has been finalised.
