Sri Lanka/Ceylon Records

Dear SerraNola,

I recently noticed that the historical birth and death records from Sri Lanka were taken offline. I wanted to ask whether there might be an opportunity to access them again, or if there are any plans to republish these records in the future.

These records have been an invaluable resource for me in tracing my family history. As you may know, Sri Lanka’s long civil war resulted in the loss of many official archives and, tragically, many elders who carried family histories in memory. The availability of these records offered a rare and precious link to our past. Their removal is a significant loss for Sri Lankans like myself who are trying to reconnect with our heritage.

Any guidance or assistance you can offer in regaining access to these records would be deeply appreciated.

With sincere thanks,

George

Thank you. What legislation? I am from Sri Lanka and I am not aware of any privacy legislation that was passed recently. I am wondering if this was incorrectly applied.

It may be liscensing issues that need to be dealt with. Please keep checking back. We are hopeful that these issues will be resloved soon. Sri Lanka is on our restricted list for now.
