When I have verified a place name on a particular record on get involved, does it change it on the person's page? If not, where does the information go?

No it doesn't change on the person page, but you can click on the person's name in another tab & make the change - I don't do that very often as I like to have a source when I make a change to a person page

Yes, the change will be reflected on the person page. It's a subtle change, since it doesn't affect the displayed place, but rather just the standardized place. But when you look at the affected event on that person page, you can see the standardized value. And there will be a new entry in the change log, with the contributor listed as "FamilySearch."
