Error 15

I am using Firefox on a PC, no VPN. The only extensions in use are Mail.com Mailcheck and UBlock Origin ad-blocker. Cookies and cache have been cleared.

After a while Familysearch becomes accessible for a short period, then Error 15 comes up again. This has happened twice today.

Is there a general problem, or is it just me?

Error 15 on FamilySearch.org is a security block caused by a new cyber security system designed to protect user data.

Firefox is a recommended browser for FamilySearch so it should not be causing you any issues.

    Recommendations are:

Make sure your browser is an up to date version.

To check if Firefox is up to date, click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner, go to Help, and select About Firefox. Firefox will automatically check for updates and download them if available, or display a message confirming you have the latest version.

Using the uBlock Origin ad-blocker may cause issues on FamilySearch by blocking pop-ups and other necessary site functions. UBlock Origin is considered an aggressive filtering add and can sometimes prevent legitimate site features from loading correctly. You can resolve these issues without completely disabling your ad-blocker.  You can create an exception for FamilySearch while not actually having to turn it off for the rest of your protection.

I read one of the causes for an error 15 could be:

    1. Correct your date and time. Sync your computer's clock with an internet time server and ensure the time zone is correct.

You may just temporarily use another browser like Chrome or Edge to see if you are still receiving the proble you reported above.

I read you said you already cleared your cookies, but for the others reading I will go ahead and explain how this is done. Clear your cookies and cache by using your Firefox

    • Click on the Menu Icon (Top right-hand corner, three lines stacked on each other)
    • Click on Options
    • At the top make sure you are on the privacy tab
    • Under the History Section click link that says clear your recent history
    • In the Clear History window, where it says Time Range To Clear, select Everything
    • Check the boxes for the following:
      • Cookies
      • Cache
      • Offline Website Data

You can also clear FamilySearch cookies and cache by going to the website located here.

If the problem persists respond back to this discussion and the many thousands of group members may have bettter answers.
