Merging person keeping both sets of information
Hi
I am trying to merge 2 people. 1 shows lots of childhood information including parents siblings, sources.
The 2nd shows adult information including spouse, children, sources etc.
Most of the information is correct in both people (1 item dubious). There are multiple siblings and children at least 8 of each.
I am concerned that only some of the information will be saved. I can't work out how to transfer all the info from 1 person to the other. The merge page only highlights some of the info will be kept.
So I haven't merged them even though I know they are the same person.
Is there an easy way of transferring the info, or can the merge page be made better so that info from both will be kept?
Thanks

I have managed to merge some people using the old merge system - several duplicates existed.
However it would be useful to be able to merge spouses and children at the same time. I now have at least 4 duplicate spouses, and 4 or more duplicate children.

It sounds like you are on the right track. However, you do need to merge each person separately.
All of the duplicate people will be saved in your new record. The only time you will lose information is when there are two things in the same field—eg. birth. They will be shown on the same line, and you need to choose which one to keep.
What I usually do when I am merging and I see another duplicate: I click on the spouse (or child or parent) and open a new tab for that person. Then I copy the IDs of their duplicates and paste into the Merge by ID on those other tabs. Of course, when all that is completed, I check to make see if I have missed any of the duplicates.
Hope that helps!

@KayDensley Thanks for your message!
Were you attempting your merges on the 3-step/old merge? Or the 3-column/new merge?
If you are on the 3-column/new merge, we have switched to selector buttons next to the information you can choose between. If there is only one person who has a birthdate or other conclusion, it is automatically moved to the third column. The third column shows what the resulting person will look like.Currently, we are not allowing data to be removed in a merge without a replacement. This ensures that less good data is lost.
We are currently working to ensure that merging 2 people works smoothly and accurately. When we are happy with the way it works, we are considering options to remind you about or start merging the other duplicates.
