How do I alter a date in my family tree
I have put the wrong date in against a person and I want to alter it, but cannot find where to do it

@valerieMucklow you should see a pencil icon against the relevant data item on the Details tab, hit that and you'll get a box where you can edit it. Any further problems, just post again.

If you don't mind my asking, where were you looking? I've had a theory for a while now that there are a lot of users that start working in Family Tree in the pedigree views and never stumble across the profile page.
You can do a lot in the pedigree view to add new spouses, children, and parents. And you can add missing information. But one thing you cannot do is edit existing information:
