Good afternoon. I'm trying to confirm where my parents may have passed away as I need to order death certificates for them. I thought they passed in a different state though their records show New York. They most likely passed in RI.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

A word of caution - the SSDI (Social Security Death Index) lists the place of last residence or receipt of last benefit, which may not be the same as the state of death.
And, if you're ordering from New York, you'll need to supply a more specific location and be able to prove your relationship.
Have you checked newspapers for an obituary or do you have one already? Do you know where they were buried? The cemetery may be able to supply more details.

The Dominican Republic death record for Elba Teresa is here, on FS. If Rafael also died in the Dominican Republic, that record is too recent to be in the same record set. That set ends at 2004.
    Hope this helps.

Just to add to the lack of clarity mentioned above, the equivalent entry on Ancestry has New York as the state where the SSN was issued in the first place.

There is no last residence or death place listed on the Ancestry record but how significant that is, I simply don't know - I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic to have that level of knowledge.

I'm not the one needing information MrsLCJ.

@Adrian Bruce1 I've mentioned the problem with the SSDI in the Data Quality Group. The algorithm calls out an error on the place of death, based on the SSDI. That's absolutely incorrect. Speaking from the proper side of the Atlantic.😎
