Could someone please look at the record for Anoyme Aubain on the attached image and see it the sex of the child is mentioned or implied?

@G D Sikstrom I've had a look, straining a bit my eyes to read the script save for the very last two words "….qui n'a du signé" maybe.

I've not found any indication either direct or indirect to indicate whether the child was a boy or girl.

There are two interesting points - the child is "anonyme et légitime" ie without a name and of married parents; further on it is written "ondoyé et décédé aussitôt…" ie a simplified baptism which was as I understand carried out in the event of imminent death which was the case. Though having no name, the child was baptised - a potential research question could be whether a simplified baptism at that time would have only been carried out on a male. However, interesting that a baptism was carried out but no forename given - unless that implies the child was a girl.

Sorry not to be more precise. Happy hunting

    Regards.

Just a second thought - post your query on the Canadian Group in particular enquiring of any religious, cultural etc practices at that time.

"qui n'a su signé" is a standard phrase to indicate that someone is not literate - who could not sign his/her name.
Anonyme indicates that the child has not been named and does not indicate masculine or feminine gender.
