Verify Places not working today for the United States?

As of 1:49 MST, Sunday, 13 July, when I tried to click on Verify Places, I got bounced back to the Family Search Opportunities page. But when I changed my selection away from the United States, I was able to get in.

A few parts of the FS site have been glitchy for several days. Maybe it will settle down when the Engineers are back at work on Monday.

This was happening to me a few weeks ago. My selection is usually New Zealand. It seemed that this would occur when the process could not find any potential candidates for that place. Prior to that time, when that situation occurred, I would see a message congratulating me on cleaning up all the NZ places! At that point, New Zealand would disappear from the list of countries that I could choose from, and reappear some time later.

A few weeks ago, that congratulatory message stopped appearing; the process would simply go back to the Get Involved page as soon as I clicked SEARCH button after selecting New Zealand. This would seem to be similar to what you are experiencing today. However, for the last few days, my experience has changed yet again. Now, New Zealand is still on the list, but when I use it, I am typically presented with a batch of items, none of which have any real connection with New Zealand. They usually consist of a one-word place name for which a similar place does exist in New Zealand.

At present, the process seems to be concentrating on profiles created in 2022 by the CommunityCensus Project user. Today, this seems to be the case no matter what country I choose. I notice that United States is not even on the list of choices, which I find suprising.

This may be obvious but just in case some people haven't twigged… (Alternatively I might be the one who's missing something!)

The Events that we see in Verify Places all have no Standardised Place-name. So what determines what country's "queue" an event goes into? The VP software can only look at the "display" place-name and if that just says "London", the system can't know whether to put it into the VP queue for Canada or United Kingdom (or lots of others….?) Maybe it puts it in both queues? (All comments expanding on that are welcome!)

So this might explain why an event in Wellington ends up in the New Zealand queue even though it's actually from Wellington, Somerset, England. (And yes, you may already know this).

What I don't understand is what the queue for (say) United States being empty means… Maybe the queue is just created every few days with just a limited number of entries, so it gets filled up again several days later? (This is as distinct from the queue looking at the whole database all the time…)
